William “Bill” Gerard Hehir of Davidsonville Maryland passed away in the arms of his loving wife of 54 years Carol, daughter Tracie, and grandson Billy at 2:37 pm on May 29th, 2024. His last moments on this earth were surrounded by love, respect, music, and gratitude. Bill was truly a friend to all, he would gladly converse with anyone at any place or time. His approachability was reflected in his 35 years that he worked for Coca-Cola, giving him camaraderie across the State of Massachusetts and a friend nearly everywhere he went. A graduate of Burncoat High School, he was always committed to learning. As a husband he was devout to his wife Carol, they were each others rock and were truly soulmates. Bill loved her unconditionally and would do anything for her. To some he was a friend, others the “co*ke Man”, a brother, an uncle, a brother-in-law, a father, and what he considered most important: a grandfather affectionately referred to as “Poppy” and “Popguy” by his seven grandchildren. As a grandfather he was always there, whenever you needed him he was willing to help no matter how small the task was. He was the family handy man and could quite literally fix anything, his beloved home in Maine, his spontaneously purchased 2008 Porsche Boxster, his home and garden were the main points of his work. Sure some of the methods used to repair things were in fact questionable at the time, but he would always fix things and get the job done. That is what allowed him to be a constant in our lives, that he would always fix and make things better. If you were upset, you would call Bill. If you were lost, you would call Bill. If you needed a laugh, you called Bill. His steadfast reliability was shown in his service to his country, where he proudly served in the National Guard. His years of service in the National Guard as well as Coca-Cola resulted in him always having a story to tell, nearly all of which are hysterical and could literally go on for hours. These stories were not only funny, but gave insight into life and the beauty that lies within it. To Bill honesty and loyalty were everything, if you were to do something you should go all out and go the extra mile no matter what. As an avid golfer, you could find him every Wednesday on the course with his friends and most notably his brother-in-laws Mike and Tippy as well as his friend Sparky. No matter how many strokes you went over par, to them it was always a good day of golf. On summer weekends he would make the drive with his wife and pugs to his home in Wells, Maine. His favorite place to be was the beaches of Maine, walking his dogs with his wife by his side casually searching for shells washed ashore. Bill’s life was also full of music, a fan of George Jones, Hank Williams Jr., The Highwaymen, and most importantly Willie Nelson. Bill demonstrated unfathomable strength and resilience throughout his nearly twenty year battle with various cancers and health issues. Regardless of the severity and how ill he was, to him life went on in full-tilt. He was a warrior that fought like no-other until the very end, always assuring that he would never truly be gone. Bill Hehir was a man of his time and an encapsulation of the American spirit. His story lives on through all of us, for he certainly impacted all who met him for the better.
