Yup, just when you thought it couldn’t get any weirder than a famous person prancing around in a serpent costume, The Masked Singer comes along and proves you wrong! Now we’ve got ye olde Jellyfish to add to the creepy roster of grotesque costumes and it’s up to us to figure out which poor celebrity is lurking beneath. (We are better at the judges’ jobs than they are. This is a fact.) So let’s give a warm welcome to our menacing tentacled friend, the Jellyfish!
Obviously, first things first: We need to send numerous thoughts and prayers to whatever celebrity is trapped inside that thing. There are already some pretty solid theories about who this gelatinous creature really is—well, to clarify, people have convinced themselves it’s Billie Eilish, so when I say “solid,” I mostly mean far-fetched and out of touch.
The Clues
The Masked Singer released an extremely scary animated clue package for the Jellyfish, which will likely curse you if you watch it with both eyes open. Therefore, I’ll just go ahead and break down the biggest moments to spare you the added stress because it’s 2020, and no more stress will do. Things to note:
- An Instaclam filter (gonna assume she’s popular on IG)
- A “little-ish fairy tale” reference
- The phrase “Once upon a time…”
- A reference to reigning supreme over an “entire underwater kingdom”
- A buncha lilies
- A tiara
- A flower crown and a Coachella reference
- A bottle of baby powder
- An angelfish
- Billie Eilish lyrics, ahem
If you think you know who’s underneath this big, green costume, you’re about to be proven wrong thanks to the second clue video. Behold, the hints:
- The mention of being the best at what they do
- “USS Big Bird” labeled on a ship
- Yoga mats
- Their close relationship with their dad
- A reference to performing
- A bowl of cereal
To no one’s surprise at all, the Jellyfish’s latest clue package was…also not that helpful. Can we stop being so vague, @ FOX?! Until they fulfill my request, we’ll have to deal with what we’ve got. Let me sum it up for you:
- They’re a Masked Singer superfan
- They have a sister who joined the video wearing a calculator headpiece
- The number “57714” on the calculator
- A nail file
- A tic-tac-toe board
The Theories
Chloe Kim
I’m definitely not sold on the idea that the Jellyfish is the Olympic snowboarder Chloe Kim. Sure, there was an angelfish reference in the clue video, which has people (including judge Nicole Scherzinger) thinking that the celeb might have some association with the film Charlie’s Angels. And yes, Chloe did make an appearance in the 2019 remake. Per the second clue package, it also sounds like the celeb spent a ton of time training for something, which could tie in with Chloe’s Olympic career?! IDK, y’all, but the people of Twitter have a feeling it’s her:
Heidi Montag
Definitely have a good feeling about this one, especially after seeing the most recent clue video. Remember that number 57714? Well, when you read it backward and upside down, it looks like “hills.” And Heidi was on…The Hills. Makes sense! It could technically be another cast member from the reality TV series, but the Twitterverse believes it’s Mrs. Pratt….
Elle King
People are guessing that the singer could be under the scary green costume because of the Xs and Os on the tic-tac-toe board, which could be a reference to her song Ex’s and Oh’s. Seems…valid! But the one thing holding me back is that the Jellyfish seems like a rookie in the singing world and Elle is a pop star with crazy-good vocals. So we shall see! Twitter seems to be leaning toward the musician:
Billie Eilish
I know. I KNOW. But despite the likelihood of very famous A-lister Billie Eilish being on this show hovering around negative 100 percent, people simply think the clues add up. “Little-ish” could be a reference to Eil-ish, the flower crown might be a reference to the song “You Should See Me in a Crown,” and then there’s the fact that Billie’s literal song lyrics are featured in the clue package. Plus, we all know neon green is her signature color.
On top of ALL THAT, fans think the Jellyfish sounds like Billie in this performance:
In case you aren’t convinced, there are two more theories that make some semblance of sense….
Charli D’Amelio
Most of the clues don’t really fit, IMO, but some fans lurking in the YouTube comments think the Jellyfish is Charli thanks to that animated angelfish—yep, another Charlie’s (er, in this case, Charli's) Angels reference. And of course, the social media hints add up!
Marsai Martin
Fans are pointing to the fact that Marsai was in the movie Little, while the “-ish” could be a reference to Black-ish (which she starred in). Plus, she’s super active on Insta, with 2.6 million followers.
Honestly, Marsai seems most likely to me, but my fingers are crossed for you, Billie stans. Dream big, friends!
