Where to Find The Winged Horror

You can find The Winged Horror in the region of Farbane Woods, atop The Dreaded Peak. The peak of this mountain is inaccessible until you've defeated Nightmarshal Styx the Sunderer and obtained the Bat Form transformation ability.

If you're in a PVE server with unlimited Soul Shards, The Eye of Twilight will mark the mountain peak on your map. The northeastern Farbane Woods Waygate would be the closest fast-travel spot to the Dreaded Peak.

However, if you're in a PVP server with a limited amount of Soul Shards, The Eye of Twilight will only show the boss' initial location if no one has defeated it. But if someone has killed it and claimed its Soul Shard, The Eye of Twilight will instead mark the current location of its Soul Shard—though you can still find The Winged Horror atop the peak.

How to Defeat The Winged Horror

The Winged Horror is arguably the easiest of the three Soul Shard-carrier V Blood Bosses. From his abilities to his movement, The Winged Horror is highly predictable and does not require extreme caution compared to Gorecrusher the Behemoth and Solarus the Immaculate.

Be sure to be at least Gear Level 78 and come during nighttime as The Dreaded Peak over very little to no cover from sunlight. You'll also want to craft a few Blood Rose Potions for healing and a pair of Potion of Rage and Witch Potion to amplify your physical and spell damage.

The strategy below will focus on defeating The Winged Horror as a solo, though you can also use these methods when fighting it with a party.

Here is the recommended build for this fight:

• Weapons: Crossbow
• Spells: Veil of Chaos, Chaos Volley, Power Surge, Heart Strike

The Winged Horror is known for its high AOE chaos and frost magic, so keeping your distance by using the Crossbow is crucial for this boss. By combining this weapon with the Chaos Volley, you'll be dealing maximum DPS without endangering yourself from the endless fire that'll be present all around the arena.

The Veil of Chaos is swappable for any other Travel Ability of your choice; the reasoning for using it against the Winged Horror is its double dash effect for easier maneuver. The Veil of Frost can be a good alternative if you think you need a more defensive option.

What makes this fight difficult is the constant debuff you'll receive when hit by any of The Winged Horror's abilities. Its chaos magic, such as the Chaos Orbs, Chaos Pillars, or Chaos Charge, will cause a 5-minute Fire debuff. The same for its Crystal Lances and Frost Storm, but these abilities will cause a 5-minute Chill debuff instead. These debuffs are where Power Surge comes to play.

Power Surge removes all negative effects and applies a buff that shields you for 150% of your spell power. It also increases movement speed by 25% and attack speed by 25% while the shield lasts.

• At any point in the fight where you can see the debuff is applied to you above your skill bar, use Veil of Chaos to get to safety, apply Power Surge, and drink a Blood Rose Potion to heal you if necessary.

Heart Strike is the recommended Ultimate Ability against the Winged Horror simply for its reach and sustain. If you instead use something like Mirror Strike or Arctic Leap, be sure to time it during its Chaos Orb attack or when it finished its Chaos Charge attack. Otherwise, he'll move or fly away, making you waste your ultimate.

Overall, The Winged Horror should not be too tricky for a Soul Shard boss. Time your attacks and watch your positioning when he's flying above you and raining down his Chaos Pillars. If your movement speed is too low to maneuver away from them successfully, try having the Slashers in your Hotbar just in case you need its Camouflage ability for increased movement speed.

Rewards for Defeating the Winged Horror

Defeating the Winged Horror will reward you with the following:

• Vampire Powers: Frost Vortex
• Unique Item: Soul Shard of the Winged Horror

Frost Vortex is a Frost Ultimate Ability identical to The Winged Horror's Frost Storm magic. This ability allows you to conjure a frost storm that deals 100% magic damage and pulls enemies towards the center. The storm rages on for 6 seconds, dealing 480% magic damage and inflicting Chill on all enemies.

The Soul Shard of the Winged Horror will only be a reward for defeating The Winged Horror if you're in a PVP server and it is its first death or if you're in a PVE server with a non-limited amount of Soul Shards. The Soul Shard of the Winged Horror increases silver and fire Resistance by 50, spell power by 10, and spell critical strike rate by 5%.
