Zagreb:

DAY 1: Zagreb

After checking in, you will begin your fabulous tour with the option to stroll through Croatia’s historic capital, Zagreb! The evening will provide a relaxing welcome dinner and information about the tour. You will have a really authentic feel for Croatia in this family-owned restaurant. You can select from local fine wines and sample dishes prepared with special ingredients from the nearby Dolac market.

DAY 2 : Zagreb

Although a modern, bustling capital, Zagreb has retained its historic core. You will begin at the Upper Town’s ancient fortifications once protecting the city from invaders. Afterwards you will move on to two key sites, St. Stephen’s Cathedral and the fabled Saint Mark’s Church. Next you will have time to browse the bustling Dolac Market. The remainder of the afternoon you will be free to stroll through this charming city, take in a little shopping or engage in a local tradition by going to the Stone Gate to make a wish!

DAY 3 : Zagreb – Pula

Your next stop is the storied Mediterranean region of Istria with ancient villages, lush olive groves and vineyards. In Pula, you will see the 1st century Roman Amphitheatre. Even today it is the venue for cultural events and film festivals.

DAY 4: Pula – Motovun – Hum – Opatija

From the magnificent seascapes along the Dalmatian Coast, you will journey inland to Motovun and Hum. As you may have quickly discovered, Croatia’s history is closely intertwined with that of ancient Rome and more modern day Italy resulting in Venetian architecture and an elegant blend of culture and styles. (Film buffs may also be aware of Motovun’s film festival.) You will savor both top local wines and Istrian specialties ranging from prosciutto to truffles. Unique in today’s world is your next stop, Hum, the smallest town on record, with just 17 residents! However, it provides a glimpse into Croatia’s past where the Glagoljica written language originated.

DAY 5: Opatija – Plitvice Lakes National Park

Get ready to explore the outdoors in this seemingly endless national park nestled around the sixteen Plitvice Lakes. A UNESCO World Heritage site, you will stroll past deep-blue lakes and cascading waterfalls. You will then glide along the largest lake in Croatia for a relaxing cruise and a traditional Croatian lunch of regional specialties.

DAY 6: Zadar

If you are an Alfred Hitchco*ck fan, you may know that in his view Zadar’s sunsets were among the most beautiful in the world so get your camera ready for a special selfie! Inside the city walls, the old town has marble streets mixing the ancient with the modern. You will explore the Roman forum, and visit the Saint Donatus Church. Your day will conclude with the remarkable Sea Organs where modern-day nature provides a musical performance via sounds reaching out from the sea!

DAY 7: Zadar – Krka National Park – Trogir

Another national park will enchant you. The Krka National Park encompasses not only natural beauty with more of Europe’s most beautiful waterfalls, such as Skradinski Buk but also charming traditional homes and mills. If the weather is good, you will have the chance for a swim under the waterfalls and then sail away through the River Krka canyon and onward to Skradin and end your voyage inTrogir.

DAY 8: Trogir

Yet another UNESCO World Heritage site awaits you in Trogir. You will step back in time to the Middle Ages and beyond in the city known fondly for not having changed in more than 2,000 years! You will see its “Stone Age” or at least that Trogir is made completely of Stone not having allowed any modern architecture to slip in unnoticed. You will be enchanted while ensconced in the old city square, touring the old fort, climbing up the bell tower for the view from above or wandering the local markets.

DAY 9: Trogir – Brač

You are off by ferryboat to Brač, an island world featuring the Mediterranean’s special gifts of abundant olive groves and vineyards, topped off by lavender fields. You will be at leisure to select an outdoor cafe or local bistro for lunch or to have a drink and enjoy the local musicians’ fare. Looking for a more active pursuit? Have a swim at Zlatni Rat or “Golden Horn”, the country’s most famous beach and also a great place to relax in the sunshine so don’t forget your sunblock!.

FromBrač to Dubrovnik:

DAY 10: Brač – Split

When you arrive in Split, you will quickly learn of its role in ancient history. It is said that the Emperor Diocletian selected Split’s harbor (Asphalatos) for his last days. It was there that he erected his fabulous palace, which not surprisingly is yet another UNESCO World Heritage site. Now that Split is the country’s largest city after Metro Zagreb, the Diocletian Palace is right in the heart of town. However, it has not been diminished as it still includes 220 buildings within its overall structure combining the new with the old from bars and restaurants to small shops. You will have the afternoon free to stroll along the city’s popular promenade, the Splitska Riva.

DAY 11: Split – Metković boat Safari – Dubrovnik

You will be delighted with this boating safari on a Lada (traditional Croatian boat) through the Neretva River Delta. You will glide past farms and plantations and local vendors along the banks. Lunch will take place at a traditional restaurant serving up favorite local fish and other specialties.

DAY 12: Dubrovnik

The highlight of your trip will undoubtedly be Dubrovnik, the UNESCO World Heritage site, dubbed the “Pearl of the Adriatic”. Starting at the storied Stradun or main street, you will begin the tour at Dubrovnik’s Franciscan monastery, Sponza Palace and on to numerous old city wonders. You will marvel at the still standing 2 km long city walls reaching a height of 22 meters having protected the city from invaders in ancient times. The multiple turrets, high towers and fortresses will provide ample photo-op’s throughout the day!

DAY 13: Dubrovnik – Elaphiti Islands – Dubrovnik Another relaxing cruise awaits you while you absorb the beauty of the breathtaking nearby Elaphiti Islands. From your boat, you will have an awe-inspiring view of Dubrovnik as you leave it behind. You will also see the lovely neighboring islands of Lokrum, Koločep and Šipan set in cerulean waters and giving you just a peak at relatively unexplored beaches. A farewell dinner at a traditional tavern or Konoba will cap off the day.

DAY 14: Dubrovnik

As the tour ends, you will have remaining time to pick up a few last minute gifts for friends and family or to exchange email addresses with your new-found friends.
