Glastonburyfestival 2024 day four has been full of surprises – including Kasabian shocking fans and Coldplay bringing Michael J Fox on stage.

The Viva La Vida hitmakers, who have made history as the only band to headline the festival five times, thrilled fans with an epic set, that saw a tribute to Back To The Future star Fox as he played guitar on stage.

Their performance followed a busy Saturday line-up on the Pyramid Stage with performances from Little Simz, Michael Kiwanuka, Keane, Cyndi Lauper and more.

Rapper Little Simz told fans to ‘understand that you are witnessing greatness’, while Girls Just Want To Have Fun’s Cyndi declared her love for Britain.

Other surprises during the day and into the night included Sam Smith taking to the stage during Disclosure’s set, and Kasabian playing a surprise set with their classics and a preview of their new album.

The Indie rockers, who headlined on the Pyramid Stage in 2014, performed on the Woodsies Stage, formerly known as the John Peel Stage, following days of speculation they were the ‘secret show’ listed as TBA on the stage line-up.

Elsewhere, newsreader Ros Atkins delivered a drum and bass version of the BBC News theme song, Camila Cabello had ice lollies rubbed all over her by her backing dancers, while there were also performances from Russell Crowe, Jessie Ware, and Keane.

And of course, we had the weird and wonderful flags and costumes dotted around the festival.

Pop star Dua Lipa was the headline act on the stage on Friday night, and on Sunday night American singer-songwriter SZA will headline, with Shania Twain in the Legends slot.

Celebrities photographed enjoying the music through the weekend include actress Anya Taylor-Joy, Oasis star Noel Gallagher, Louis Tomlinson, Idris Elba and more.

Now there’s just one more day of music, celeb spotting, and the weird and wonderful world of Glastonbury 2024.

Coldplay had earlier been singing about fans in the crowd, drawing the spotlight on the best-dressed.

Ending the night, frontman Chris Martin called out: ‘The main reason that we’re in a band is watching Back To The Future, so thank you to our hero forever and one of the most amazing people on Earth, Mr Michael J Fox.’

Jessie Ware has epic response to near-wardrobe mishap

    Meghna Amin

Jessie Ware paused her show at one point during her Glastonbury set to respond to a message in her ear.

She revealed that someone offstage asked her if she wanted to run off to apply some more tit-tape, to which she had a truly epic response.

‘I should not share, but I just had in my ear my person saying, “Hello Jessie, do you want to come offstage to just do some tit-tape?”’ the 38-year-old began.

After a chuckle, she replied: ‘I apologise! I think we’re post-watershed – but there’s nothing to see hear anyway! No, I’m fine, thank you.’

Please hitmaker Jessie – who later in the show changed into a gold jumpsuit with a higher neckline – was performing on the West Holts Stage on Saturday, while Coldplay headlined on the Pyramid Stage.

Coldplay kick off their record-breaking act – but fans aren’t impressed with the delay

    Meghna Amin

Coldplay kicked off their record-breaking set on the Pyramid Stage on Saturday, becoming the only band to headline at Glastonbury five times.

But fans weren’t too happy to begin with, as the Viva La Vida hitmakers took to the stage 10 minutes later than scheduled.

’10 mins late ffs classic Coldplay,’ @solarspheres said.

‘They are a wee bit late eh???’ @Kmtsversion added.

‘Is it really a Coldplay show if they aren’t late,’ @humanheart wrote, to which @bucklandlover said: ‘not shocked by this.’

Looking on the positive side, @NajJanetto said: ‘Always late but worth the wait.’

    — Ash 🧸🧢 (@bucklandlover) June 29, 2024

This comes after frontman Chris Martin revealed that they nearly missed their very first headline set in 1999.

The 47-year-old said in BBC documentary Coldplay: Our Glastonbury, according toNME, their tour manager dropped them off at the wrong entrance minutes before they were due to perform.

Chris recalled: ‘The hunger to go there was so huge. Our first introduction, I think, was probably carrying a not-very-good amplifier with a drunken tour manager who, you know, obviously didn’t know what he was doing either.

‘So we sort of had a very quick intake of the whole place, and then started where you should start, which is in the New Bands Tent, first on. I don’t think I thought about the wider, how wild it was. It was just like we were here and we’re late and it’s huge.’

    Meghna Amin

Coldplay are breaking a record tonight with their headlining performance – making it their fifth.

The band will be taking to the Pyramid Stage for the first time since 2016, though their first performance at Glastonbury was in 1999.

They’ll begin their highly anticipated two-hour set at 9.45pm, airing on BBC from 10pm.

Idris Elba spotted in roaring Little Simz crowd

    Meghna Amin

Amongst the roaring crowd was none other than Idris Elba, who was caught on the BBC stream enjoying her gig.

The British rapper wowed Glastonbury without a band or backing singers for several songs and just the aid of a DJ for much of her set.

She rhymed effortlessly while performing tracks from her Mercury Prize-winning album Sometimes I Might Be Introvert and her latest studio record No Thank You, at the Pyramid Stage on Saturday.

She told the audience: ‘Thank you for making this honestly one of the highlights of my career, my life.’

When is Kasabian’s new album Happenings out?

    Meghna Amin

After Kasabian played a secret set at Glastonbury 2024, covering bangers, classics and a preview of their new album Happenings, fans have been left begging for more.

And it won’t be a long wait, with their eighth studio album set to be released on July 5.

Following their surprise gig, Kasabian were praised as on ‘top form’ by Everton manager Sean Dyche, who was backstage watching the performance alongside Manchester Mayor and Toffees fan Andy Burnham.

He told the PA news agency he feels Sergio Pizzorno has brought a ‘new energy’ to the band since the departure of former frontman Tom Meighan.

‘I thought they were on top form, Serg has brought a new energy to it a different energy,’ Dyche said.

‘Respect to Tom, but Serg has brought a different feel to it I think… I know him personally and I think he’s been amazing.

‘(The atmosphere was) as big as I’ve seen it – the energy in the crowd, that performance, the level of performance – awesome.’

The band from Leicester’s set ended with their 2009 hit Fire, which was met with rapturous cheers as flares set off by members of the crowd burned over the throng of thousands gathered in the tent in the south-east corner of Worthy Farm.

Camila Cabello: ‘The Glastonbury rumours are different from the reality’

    Meghna Amin

During a BBC interview after her performance, Camila Cabello revealed her experience of Glastonbury differed from the ‘rumours’ she’d heard.

‘I’d heard it was amazing but it’s muddy and rainy, I feel like we lucked out today!’ she said, adding the weather was ‘a myth’

‘Festival life is for me,’ she went on, sharing her excitement for SZA and how much she loved watching Dua Lipa and surprise act Kasabian after acting who they were.

‘British people have the best taste,’ she added.

Talking about her new album, she went on: ‘It’s been the most fun I’ve had.’

‘Getting older is underrated,’ she added, echoing how it’s ‘a gift to age’.

‘You’re less weighed down by anxiety, and less weighed down by insecurity, and you’re more getting to know who you are, and you’re more confident in who you are, and that just makes you enjoy life more and not be so bogged down my stuff.’

Looking straight into the camera, she then claimed ‘Drake’ was the inspiration behind this era of her music, continuing: ‘I was saying that because I performed the song for the first time, that made me nervous because I was like, “Oh my god performing this song, Hot Uptown with Drake… Glastonbury.” We literally got in today at 6am, it was giving fresh off the runway!’

‘I was listening to a lot of rap and hip hop for this album,’ she went on.

    Meghna Amin

Multiple flares removed during Russell Crowe’s set

    Meghna Amin

Russell Crowe was met with a huge audience on the Acoustic Stage, though flares were removed during his set.

The actor shouted ‘hello Glastonbury’ before opening his set with band Indoor Garden Party.

Before he sang the song, Southampton, he told a story about meeting a girl and said she went to the coastal city instead of meeting him in Paris.

‘I’ve been waiting to do this song in front of an English crowd for a long, long time,’ he said.

Elsewhere, he gave anecdotes about meeting the Pope at the Vatican, and revealed that he has a letter from late country star Johnny Cash which he keeps in a room with ‘sparkly’ things in.

The letter from Cash mentions he loved watching a movie the actor was in and appreciated his work, according to Crowe.

‘I reckon this is the song Johnny Cash wants to be his next single,’ he told the crowd at Worthy Farm before playing a high-energy tune with Indoor Garden Party.

    Meghna Amin

British rapper Little Simz kicked off her Glastonbury set on the Pyramid Stage, and told the crowd that they ‘should understand that you are witnessing greatness’.

Dressed in a leather jacket emblazoned with Little Simz and a long skirt, the 30-year-old rapper began by performing her song Silhouette while strutting around the stage.

The No Merci singer later told the crowd that they ‘should understand that you are witnessing greatness’.

She added: ‘I don’t say that with arrogance, I say that with confidence, confidence in my self-worth and my self-value, you know.

‘It took me a while to get to the Pyramid (stage), but finally I’m here, and if I’m great that means you’re great.

‘Because we all want people, one source, experiencing something so magical this evening, it’s such an honour to have you here.

‘And all I have on my agenda is my heart’s on fire.’

She then gave a fluid rendition of the track Heart On Fire before debuting her new song to the crowd, titled No Code.

‘It’s pretty great, it’s nutty,’ the 71-year-old said of her time at Glastonbury in a BBC interview.

She went on to say that she feels as though she’s ‘been lucky’ after scoring so many accolades during her career.

‘It was great to hear everyone singing,’ she went on, recalling her performance earlier today in front of a roaring crowd.

She then shared her plans for ‘an arena fairwell tour’, adding: ‘I’m looking forward to playing England, because I always felt honestly, I remember singing I’m going to be strong, in Bristol and there were people all the way at the top standing up, I was like, Oh my god!

‘I love England, I loved England ever since I saw Monty Python and I came over here the first time and thought everything on TV was Monty Python, which I know it wasn’t now…’

    Meghna Amin

Soul musician Michael Kiwanuka told Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage crowd that he was having his ‘worst nightmare’ amid technical issues during his set.

The British singer-songwriter, 37, appeared to struggle while performing Solid Ground and took breaks before abandoning the track.

He told festival goers to ‘hold on’ before adding ‘sorry, this is out of tune’, referring to his keyboard.

‘I’m sorry, like this is my worst nightmare,’ Kiwanuka said as the crowds cheered him on.

He explained that there was supposed to be ‘a synth thing’ and then go ‘seamlessly’ into the next track.

He tried again before going back to play his guitar and the song Cold Little Heart.

Melanie C holds hands with mystery man at Glastonbury

    Tori Brazier

Melanie C has been snapped soaking up the atmosphere at Glastonbury, hand-in-hand with a male companion.

The Spice Girls singer, 50, was dressed for the warm weather in a chic beige shorts and shirt co-ord, with the top left open over a khaki crop top.

She was also wearing white-framed sunglasses, a black crossbody bag and sunglasses, while her mystery man opted for a black T-shirt and black linen trousers rolled up at the cuffs.

The duo looked happy and relaxed in each other’s company as they strolled among the tents at Worthy Farm.

Melanie, who performed at Glastonbury last year on the Avalon stage, is understood to have split with her long-term boyfriend Joe Marshall back in August 2022.

She was first spotted with this same male pal on a dog walk together in London earlier this month.

Recently, Spice Girls fans had been left devastated after Posh Spice Victoria Beckham’s husband David revealed that the group ‘unfortunately’ had no plans to reunite, despite years-worth of rumours – some of which placed them at Glastonbury, filling the Legends slot.

Melanie C had joined fellow band members Mel B, Emma Bunton and Geri Halliwell-Horner at Victoria’s 50th birthday for an impromptu performance earlier this year that thrilled fans when clips were shared online.

But David dashed hopes earlier in June when he clarified on reunion tour talk: ‘Unfortunately, that’s not happening.

‘Victoria was so pleased to see the girls, and it was a massive part of her life, the girls, but obviously, all the girls have got their own things going on. They will do certain things together at certain times.

‘But Victoria’s full on with her beauty and fashion businesses. If anyone’s busier than me, it’s her.’

The dad-of-four added that ‘there’s nothing more that I’d like to see than the girls on stage again’.

He also promised that he would ‘still work at it’ – so perhaps we may still see the Spices take on Glasto together at some point in the future.

Camila Cabello raises eyebrows with antics during‘sweltering’ Glastonbury set

    Tori Brazier

Camila Cabello has found a novel way to keep cool during her headline set on the Other Stage, as she licked yellow ice lollies mid-song.

The Cuban-born star, 27, also had her backing dancers – who were wearing wolf masks – rub the lollies on her body.

It was likely a welcome relief for Camila, who was performing onstage at her first Glastonbury in the evening sunshine in a shredded grey dress over black underwear.

She later acknowledged the ‘sweltering’ heat in the UK, clocking that it was suitable before launching into her hit song Havana.

Some fans were left a little confused by the choice, with @BrookeAnnTyler tweeting: ‘I wish someone could show me what my face looked like during camila cabello’s opening song at glastonbury because i was genuinely baffled.’

Meanwhile, others were feeling the vibe, with @soykarenquevedo admitting: ‘It’s not normal for me to feel jealous to death over a damn ice pop… I repeat, IT IS NOT NORMAL.’
