What are the Recruitment Events like?

  • Information Sessions: Our recruitment chairs, Jadyn and KJ, will be conducting a presentation on all things recruitment and DKA! We will also hold questions and answer sessions after the presentation with some of our active members on what life after new membership is like!
  • Speed Dating: We will be answering questions in rotating groups. It's a great opportunity for you to get to know some of our active members and for us to get to know you!
  • Art Night: Some of our active members will be showing of their work across mediums and departments from both in and outside of DKA. It's a great opportunity to see what kind of cinematic interests our society encompasses and for us to get to know how you are as a cinematic artist!
  • Game Night: We will be playing a variety of games in rotating groups. It's a great opportunity to get to know our actives in a more informal and personal way!

Applications are out! To be considered for our Spring 2024New Member Class, you must submit an application by the 6PM PST on Friday, February 2nd.

About Applications

To be considered for our Spring '24New Member Class, you must submit a completed application by 6PM on Friday, February 2nd.

This semester, our application consists of the following:

  1. General Info and Headshot (Does not need to be professional! We just want to be able to put names to all of the faces we meet at events).
  2. 6 short answer questions with minimum word counts of 150 - 300 words (depending on the question).
  3. A brief 1 - 3 minute video introduction
  4. Asupplement of 1 - 3 original works that showcase your talent and cinematic interests
  5. Completion of the submission form,including your interview availability choices (only those who make it through to our third round will be interviewed).

What Happens After Applications are Submitted?

Applications will conclude the first round of voting. Applicants will be notified if they will be moving on to the next round via email on Monday (2/5). Those advancing to our second round will be invite to our Blue Chip Dinner on Tuesday, February 6th. The dress code will be Blue Chip will be semi-formal with the event having a more serious, career-focused tone. Please ensure you keep conversation to that you would be comfortable having with coworkers during a work-related event. If you are unable to dress in accordance to the dress code, it is no problem and will not be counted against you!

Following Blue Chip, applicants will be notified if theywill be moving on to the third and final round via email on Wednesday, February 7th. Those who are moving on will also be given confirmation of their scheduled 15-minute interview slot. Interviews will take place between 9:00am and 5:30pm on Thursday, February 8th and Friday, February 9th.

Following interviews, applicants will be notified if we will be offering them a bid for our Spring 2024 New Member Class via email or phone call between 11:00pm on Friday, February 9th and 6:00am on Saturday, February 10th. New members will be expected to attend our Bid Day Welcome on Saturday, February 10th beginning at noon sharp. New members will also have an orientation meeting on Sunday, February 11th, from 3:30 - 4:30pm.

  • Get to know us.
    • Attend anInformation Session and read about our organization on this landing page to gain a greater perspective on what our organization is all about. Attending our Speed Dating, Art Night, and Game Nightevents is also highly encouraged. These events give us that chance to get to know you outside of what's on your application. You also get to know our actives and get a better sense of what our chapter is like. When attending events, make sure to get to know a variety of people. We pick our new member class as a chapter, every active you meet will be a part of the decision-making process.
  • Be yourself.
    • We want to know how you truly are as a person andcinematic artist. We are looking for imaginative, collaborative, and driven cinematic artists of character who can all contribute to our chapter in their own uniqueway. All backgrounds, experience levels, classes (graduate and undergraduate), majors, and cinematic interests are welcome! We want to learn what makes you special andwhich of our values you personally excel in.
  • Be mindful about what you say.
    • While we love the societal bonds we have formed through social and fellowship opportunities, we are looking for members who are able to balance work life and social life. We are hoping to find those we envision as both valued friends and collaborators. With this in mind, please keep conversations during recruitment events to those you would feel comfortable having with acquaintances orco-workers.
  • Get to know other potential new members.
    • Potential New Members you meeting during the recruitment process could become your new friend, collaborator, or fellow new member classmate. Whatever your journeys may be, we encourage you to get to know each other and have fun during this process together regardless of who receives a bid.
  • Make sure your application is submitted on time and completed to the best of your ability.
    • Submitting your application on time is the only requirement you must complete tobeconsidered for a bid into our new member program (during which members are inducted into our chapter asactive voting members).Unfortunately, due to the volume of applications we receive, we cannot accept any late or incomplete applications. Please ensure that your applications are proofread and submitted by the deadline. Also be aware of the sharing settingsof any PDFs, links, videos or other documents you send so that we can all elements of your application. Applications will be viewed throughout the week following submissions. Please ensure that all elements of your application are shared for anyone with the link to view until February 9th.
  • Ensure that you are able to Fulfillthe Commitments of a New Member this Semester.
    • Our New Member Program is a robust, 9-week crash course that ensures all new members are prepared for all National Requirements of becoming inducted andhave an easy transition into becoming an active. Please review our New Member Program section for further details.
  • Don't Get Discouraged if We are Unable to Extend You a Bid.
    • Unfortunately, we are limited in the size of New Member Class our resources are able to accommodate during each semester'sprogram. If you do not receive a bid, it does not mean that you are any less of a spectacular artist or person. If you do not receive a bid, we highly encourage you to re-apply next season! Some of our members have applied three times before receiving a bid. We also invite a select number of applicants who do not receive a bid to our collaborators list, which is a mailing list for crew-calls and invitations to work with active members on projects. Regardless of whether or not you receive a bid for our new member class or collaborators list,we would love to see you are our general public events which are announce through our mailing list, on our Instagram, and on EngageSC!
